Institutional development and training in university management with Africa

Making a contribution to strengthening the institutional capacity of African universities is the main objective of the Institutional Development and University Management project (DIGU) which has been set up by the eight Catalan public universities in collaboration with the Catalonia-Africa Institute. The DIGU programme aims to promote exchange experiences, the analysis of good practice and the professional training and development of university directors and managers through training, professional development, periods abroad and mobility of university directors and managers, as well as the creation of networks of knowledge.

The DIGU pilot project that is being carried out throughout 2009 has the support opf the Catalan Cooperation for Development Agency (ACCD) of the Catalan government (Generalitat) and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development AECID) of the Spanish government. There are five participating African universities:
- Université Cheikh Anta Diop (Senegal)
- Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (Mozambique)
- Université de Yaunde I (Cameroon)
- Université d’Antananarivo (Madagascar)
- Universidad Nacional de Guinea Equatorial (Equatorial Guinea)

The programme is divided into three training modules, the first of which took place from 15 to 19 June in Catalonia and included the participation of three representatives from each of the African universities.
