Visitors have unrestricted access to the Museum, the Salt Craft Centre, a video about miners’ experiences, the Mª Teresa Mining Pit with its original machinery and a complete chronological Photography Exhibition showing the origin and evolution of salt mining in Cardona. Using special 4x4 vehicles, visitors are taken 86 metres underground where they can see an incredible salt outcrop: the Salt Mountain. They are then given miner’s helmets and, accompanied by a guide, enter the interior of the Mountain on foot and cover 500 metres of galleries where they can enjoy some spectacular stalactites and stalagmites as well as the different seams of sodium, potassium and magnesium salts. |
