Description |
The Museu del Coure (Copper Museum) is in an old early 20th century house next to La Farga Group’s industrial facilities. La Farga Group has been working with copper, a metal which is essential for our society, since 1808.
The Museu del Coure is divided into four areas: 1. La Farga Lacambra, the history of a company, covering the company’s story from when it was founded up to the present day. 2. Copper and the origins of metallurgy, which looks at the start of metallurgy and the significance of copper from its discovery up to industrialisation. 3.The chemical element copper, where visitors can learn about copper from the scientific point of view with its physical and chemical properties. 4. Copper technology and applications, which features the industrial processes for mining, working and purifying copper and includes a display of copper, bronze and brass objects from industrial society.
A visit to the Museu del Coure also includes a tour of the factory along a walkway. It takes in the La Farga Lacambra factory, the smelting area where visitors can see how copper is smelted, a part of the old industrial settlement and finally a wiredrawing plant. We believe that it is a very useful visit in which schoolchildren can learn about and experience at first hand the entire copper smelting and wiredrawing processes and learn more about this noble metal. |
