Description |
A former tannery dating from the 18th century which shows the old system of vegetable tanning of leather that was used before industrialisation took hold. It retains the two floors that are typical of a pre-industrial tannery: the ground floor, where the leather was prepared and tanned, and the drying floor where the hides were hung on the characteristic barrades (wooden slats with a hook stuck into the ceiling) to dry out. Alongside the usual tours, on one Sunday each month there are dramatised sessions for all the family at which, after a suca-mulla (a snack based on bread, sweet wine, white wine and sugar), visitors are awarded an apprentice tanner diploma.
Visit to the former Cal Granotes tannery (18th century)
Using techniques drawn from the theatre, an actor playing the role of the master tanner hosts a tour of the former Cal Granotes tannery which dates back to the 18th century, and describes a way of living and working which is intimately linked to the industrial history of Igualada. The visit is rounded off with a suca-mulla (a snack based on bread, sweet wine, white wine and sugar) and apprentice tanner diplomas are awarded to all participants. Visitors are also given free tickets for the Museu de la Pell d’Igualada i Comarcal de l’Anoia (Igualada Leather Museum and L’Anoia County Museum).
